If we're over here and they're over there then where are we?

Greetings Earth Frens, Ratio here…

So I was scrollin’ as I do here in the stackiverse. As you know I took that break of about a year and a half until just recently. Stone Bryson told me there would be some things I would notice about Substack having trickled my sorry rump back in here.

I think I got a handle on it. People are cross posting their X posts here and not really engaging with Substack. Notes has made this more of a not-so-original social media site with very little focus on the writers and their writing. Just a blur of feed.

In the past I likened it to whispering into the hurricane. Eventually the hurricane gets closer and the people you assembled join you in the center where it’s calm and you do your thing. Build a following. Make a difference.

Now I would compare it with a moving train. It’s going like 200 miles an hour through the station. You toss a note or a post onto that train. It goes by and is forgotten.

The engagement is a little bit better but for having nearly 20K views and almost 200 subscribers is quite a change from last time.

Is that about right?

I might venture out and post a meme or two and watch the sparks fly. Not ready to roll out phase 2 yet.
