Greetings Earth Frens! Ratio here…

It’s Sunday night and I am in the middle of the move to California. I’m here now.

I know. Boo! Hiss! <throws rotten tomatoes>

Before you write Ratio off and accuse me of buying blue hair die hear me out.

I’m not going to cheerlead for traffic or 14 lane freeways. Or bemoan how I miss open spaces. Not even going to talk about politics. At least not in this intro.

But I noticed something out here in Orange County California.

Given I just came from Colorado so it’s an apples to apples comparison politically but this is the main difference so far.

The people are generally nice and friendly. At least in the area where I live. So far.

I admit, I don’t know any of them yet. But take an average trip to a grocery store, or sitting at the IHOP for breakfast.

Seriously, Colorado is a place where you say hi to someone and they just look down at their shoes and don’t acknowledge you. This happened to me at work and I started to test it out just to see if I was going crazy. Denver sucks.

Cut me some slack, I’ve been here 3 days. I do know this… I know where NOT to go in LA.

But so far it’s not what I expected. And compared to Colorado I’m having a culture shock of a good kind. Totally unexpected.

I can tell you this. I’ve seen more American Flags in California than in almost all of Colorado. 12 on a freeway overpass. 6 on a random signpost on a busy winding street.

I know flags don’t mean anything. But I get the sense that at least where I’m at it’s not the typical California you hear about on the news.

But of course, as usual, a lot of real life goes under or unreported. This is just mine.

You can learn a lot about a town just by going to the grocery store.

What types of people go there. What is the condition of the store itself? Is everything ransacks like a bomb went off? Are people courteous? What cars do people drive?

At least in my neighborhood I have nothing but good things to report. Meh, it is California so I’m sure it will disappoint me soon enough.

I know it did last time.

It’s fine.

Just don’t look at it.
